She was born as Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson in California, USA. Katy started taking singing lessons at the early age of 9 years and was singing in her parents ministry from 9 to 17 years old. She left High School to pursue a career in music and released her first album under the name „Katy Hudson“ – a gospel album. It was commercially unsuccessful and Katy soon changed her name to Katy Perry to avoid confusion with the actress Kate Hudson – Perry being the maiden name of her mother. After she did backing vocals for artists like Mick Jagger or P.O.D. After Perry signed a record deal with Capitol records she released the single „I Kissed A Girl“ in 2008, a song she co-wrote, and the song became her first #1 in the US Hot 100 Billboard Chart. It also topped the Single Charts in Germany, UK, Australia, Canada and Italy among other places. She released her album „One of the Boys“ later that year, and the lp peaked at #9 in the USA. It also reached the Top 10 in Germany, Canada and France among other places and sold over 7 million times worldwide. It was certified multiple platinum in Canada (3x), France, Australia and the UK. Her 2nd single „Hot N Cold“ also topped the German Single Charts and sold very well across the globe.

In 2010 she released her next album „Teenage Dream“ – her first US Top 200 Album Charts #1. It also topped the Australian, Canadian and UK album charts and sold over 6 million times worldwide. It was certified multiple platinum in the the UK, Australia, Canada (4 times), USA and New Zealand (3 times) and France (2 times). 5 singles of the album topped the US Hot 100 Single Charts („California Gurls“, „Teenage Dream“, „Firework“, „E.T.“ and „Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F)“ – becoming the first female artist to do so. It was also recognized by the Guiness Book Of World Records. In 2013 Katy released her next album „Prism“ – it also topped the US album charts and reached #1 in Canada, UK, Australia and New Zealand. It sold over 4 million units worldwide and was certified 5times platinum in Australia among other places. Two singles of the album („Roar“ and „Dark Horse“) topped the US single charts – bringing her total of #1’s in her home-country to 9. In 2017 Katy released her so far final album „Witness“ – another #1 album in the USA.
