The short film „Stai dove stai bene“ ( premiered in February 2017 as part of the exhibition „von seitenlinien“ at GAK / Gesellschaft für aktuelle Kunst Bremen) is a poetic-experimental documentary short film in which the dancer Gabrio Gabrielli tells of his youth in an outlying district of Milan, which he perceives as lacking in prospects. After an early break with his parental home, Gabrielli ran away from home at the age of 15 and lived as a punk on the streets and in squats. From the social margins, his path finally led to contemporary dance via earning money as a street artist. Today, Gabrio Gabrielli, whose life story seems to have sprung from a novel, is a professional dancer and a member of Samir Akika’s dance company at the Bremen Theatre.
During the filming, another twist occurred that changed Gabrielli’s view of his past and steered the cinematic narrative in a different direction. His father’s health, long and seriously ill, deteriorated rapidly, prompting Gabrielli to travel to Milan to pay him a final visit. The film follows Gabrio Gabrielli to the places where he spent his time as a youth. This time, however, he describes the places in dance terms, building a bridge between past and present.
