Oriental Aesthetics and Chinese Wisdo: Ziqi Donglai 东方美学：紫气东来 – FESCH.TV

The Oriental aesthetics, especially Chinese-style (Chinoiserie) is often misinterpreted by the West, mostly in fashion weeks and luxury brands due to the rough understanding of Chinese wisdom. In fact, it is subtler and more sophisticated rooted in Chinese culture.

In order to change this perception I have made this brand video of Zilai Design, by interpreting one of the traditional Chinese wisdom from Lao Tzu, who is the great philosopher of ancient China and the founder of the Taoism.

Ziqi Donglai is a famous Chinese idiom, translated as ‘the purple air coming from the east’. It describes a purple breeze that proceeded Lao Tzu as he approached Hangu Pass. The phrase has become a modern Chinese set-phrase to describe a good omen.

The conceptual short film interprets this notion by integrating the colors and Chinese philosophy quotes with the Five Elements (metal, wood, water, fire and earth, which make up the world) to show the Chinese aesthetics and wisdom creatively in a modern way.

东方美学，特别是中国风总是被常常被西方误解，在时装周和奢侈品牌上尤甚，很大程度上是因为对中国古代智慧的理解尚浅。其实它含蓄而复杂并植根于中国文化。为了改变这种观念，我制作了Zilai Design品牌短片，通过解读传统中国智慧之一—老子的“紫气东来”（代表祥瑞之兆），呈现现代东方美学与中国智慧。

Kong Ji Shi Bai (Bai=White) :
Adapted from Buddhism. The emptiness is the same as the material form.

Yu Guo Tian Qing (Qing=Cyan)n:
After clouds, calm weather. Every cloud has a silver lining.

Zhi Bai Shou Hei (Bai=White, Hei=Black) :
Taoism. Know and observe all but stay obscure. Although the rights and wrongs are perfectly clear in mind, one should be in the dark and remain silent.

Jin Zhu Zhe Chi (Chi=Red) :
Chinese idiom. Who close to cinnabar to be dyed in red. Environment will affect a person’s habits, close to good-minded friends will get good influence.

Tian Xuan Di Huang (Huang=Yellow) :
From Thousand Character Classic. The sky is black, the earth is yellow and the universe is vast.
