Will Liverman & Paul Sánchez to perform their Grammy-nominated „Dreams of a New Day: Songs by Black Composers,“ April 19, 2022

Globally recognized operatic baritone Will Liverman and acclaimed pianist (CofC faculty member) Paul Sánchez will perform their album “Dreams of a New Day: Songs by Black Composers.“ Currently nominated for a Grammy Award, the album highlights Black composers across generations, from early 20th-century pioneers Henry Burleigh, Margaret Bonds, and Thomas Kerr to Robert Owens, Leslie Adams, and contemporary composers Damien Sneed and Shawn E. Okpebholo. The album received rave reviews in the press and reached #1 on Billboard Classical charts.

CofC Chief Diversity Officer Rénard Harris will lead a pre-concert talk with some of the album’s artists, including poet laureate of Charleston, Marcus Amaker, whose poem „The Rain“ is part of the album’s centerpiece song “Two Black Churches,” a devastatingly beautiful song that reflects on tragic events perpetrated by white supremacists: the 16th Street Baptist Church bombing in Birmingham, Ala. (1963) that took the lives of four girls; and the Mother Emanuel AME Church shooting in Charleston, S.C. (2015) that killed nine parishioners.

The concert will take place on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at 7:30 p.m., in the Sottile Theatre. FREE for youth (18 & under) and CofC students/faculty/staff. ($30 for non-CofC adults) INFO + TICKETS:
