Why Are Big Box Retailers Like Walmart and Dollar General Getting More Involved with Health Care?

FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:

On the surface it seems odd that #bigbox #retailers are getting into the #healthcare space. In September 2019 Walmart launched their doctor run „Walmart Health“ #primarycare clinics. This month Walmart started selling it’s own lower cost private label analog insulin drug. Dollar General recently hired Chief Medical Officer Albert Wu, MD as it seeks to become a „health destination“ for Americans. Over 106 rural #hospitals have closed since 2010 and at least another 673 are vulnerable to closing, which increases the distance people need to travel to receive #medical care. This is largely happening in states that have not expanded #Medicaid coverage. With 75% of the U.S. population living within five miles of a Dollar General, they seek to remedy this situation. These retailers have also seen a decline in foot traffic due to the #covidpandemic and hope to reverse this trend by providing a #onestopservice solution for customers. #healthinsurance #health #wellness #cfainstitute #caia #frm
