FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:

In 1972 I launched 2nd City with a band of cohorts to create a cultural center of shops, galleries, restaurants, children’s book store, kitchen store, graphic design offices, and an entertainment center, to name just a few. In 1977, I closed my Juniper Tree Gallery, Artisan Craft gallery, and Ethnic Folk Arts store, with a wonderful farewell party, „Vision, Follow The Dream,“ shown here in the old video which has quite a bit of loss but still fun. My reason for leaving was that I had been „called“ to travel to Central Asia to the mysterious land of Afghanistan and it was life changing.

In 1977 Afghanistan was rarely traveled to and was little known by the Western world. My journey there was an experience of a lifetime, and I was forever changed by the beauty and kindness of the people. The photographs I took while there are now a gift to history and reflect the joy of this amazing culture during that great time of peace. As anthropologist Wade Davis said, „Culture is not trivial. It is not a decoration or artifice, the songs we sing, or even the prayers we chant. It is a blanket of comfort that gives meaning to lives.“ I hope my images provide that comfort for the Afghan people now in their time of conflict.

My photographs can be seen on my website www.BeautyOfAfthanistan.com, and my photo/memoir „Modern Nomad, Into The Heart of The Silk Road,“ will be published in 2022.
