Viking Voyage

FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:

If I’ve deciphered correctly the records about my family tree, then I descend from a Norwegian thane called Merlitor. His son was John Willoughby who receied lands in Lincolnshire in reward for his assistance in the Battle of Hastings.

I have Willoughby roots in Ireland, back to the mid 1750’s or so, but I’ve not yet been able to my line of mostly tenant farmers back into the several ‚higher status‘ Willoughby lines.

Mytrueancestry.com says that I have lots of Danish and Norse viking roots, with several in particular in Iceland.

(They find bodies in ice and bog and DNA can be traced now — way back. And apparently the DNA doesn’t lie.) — Who knew?!

So, in this short video, I thought I’d take a trip – a different kind of Viking cruise holiday – from the Scandinavian beauty of homelands to other distant places in northern climes: places such as Iceland, Greenland and Newfoundland. I know the Vikings in lots of other places…

Whatever our roots, the backgrounds of beauty in all places on the globe give pause, wonder — a sense of mystery and adventure. We know however, that such beauty was often backdrop to displacement, war and brutality – the lot of many of our ancestors in former times.

One longs for the adventure of travel and discovery but in the context of peace and … just awe — wth findings that do not cost the ultimate sacrifice of lives.
