VERY BEST: Lipa, Dua

Few had a better year than her in 2020. She released the critcially acclaimed album „Future Nostalgia “ and was nominated for 6 Grammys. Multiple singles hit the charts across the world and solidified her as one of the biggest pop stars of the last 5 year. She deserves to be named the female singer of the year 2020 in my mind.

She was born in Westminster, London to Kosova, Albanian parents who left Pristina in 1992. Dua (her first name means „Love“) moved with her parents back to Kosovo when she was 11. At the age of 14 she started to upload coversongs on YouTube. One year later she moved back to London with aspirations to become a singer. In 2015 she signed a record deal and in October 2015 her 2nd single „Be The One“ was released. It became her first major hit, reaching Top Ten in the UK, Australia and topping the charts in Belgium (Flanders) and Poland. After more singles were released and a collab with Sean Paul also reached Top 10 in the UK, Dua released her debut album under her name – it sold well over one million units worldwide and charted in the Top Ten of the UK, Australia, Sweden, Belgium (Flanders), Netherlands and New Zealand. It was certified platinum in the UK, Australia and Netherlands as well as double platinum in Canada and New Zealand.

In 2017 she released the single „New Rules“ with an official video that went viral and helped Dua to her biggest chart success across the world. The song topped the UK Charts for 2 weeks, Ireland for 8 non consecutive weeks, also Belgium and the Netherlands and reached Top 10 in Germany, Sweden, Australia and even the US Billboard Charts. It was certified multiple times platinum in Australia (5x), USA (5x), Canada (5x), Sweden (4x), UK (3x) among other countries. In 2018 her collab with Calvin Harris „One Kiss“ became her 2nd #1 in the UK and her first charttopper in Germany.

In 2020 she released her 2nd album Future Nostalgia. It topped the album charts in the UK, Australia and New Zealand, and reached Top 5 all across the world including #4 in Germany and the USA. 4 singles of the album reached the Top 10 in the UK.
