She was born as Elena Jane Goulding in England, UK. Her musical career started early as she wrote songs when she was 15. She signed her first record deal in 2009 but released her first single independently. In 2010 she won the BBC Sound Of 2010 poll as the music industry choices for rising stars. In 2010 she released her debut album „Lights“ which topped the UK album charts and reached #6 in Ireland. 3 singles of the album became Top 30 hits in her homecountry. A re-issue of „Lights“ with 6 additional songs and re-named „Bright Lights“ was released later that year and 2 more songs of it became huge hit – the Elton John cover „Your Song“ peaked at #2 in the UK, while the title track „Lights“ became her biggest hit then in the USA and peaked at #2 there and also reched the Top 10 in Canada. In 2012 Ellie released her 2nd album „Halcyon“, another #1 album in the UK. It was certified 4x platinum in her homecounrty and platinum in the USA. In 2013 she released a re-issue of the album (called Halcyon Days) with new songs, including „Burn“ which became her first #1 song in the UK. It also reached Top 10 across Europe in countries like Germany, France and Belgium as well as Australia and New Zealand. In early 2015 Ellie released the title track for the movie „Fifty Shades Of Grey“ – it became her biggest hit with #1’s across the world in over 25 territorries like UK, Germany, Australia, Sweden, Italy, France and many many more. It reached #3 in the USA and Canada and was certified multiple times platinum in many, many countries (USA 5x, Sweden 7x, Canada 3x, UK 2x, Australia 3x just to name a few). In 2015 she also released her 3rd album „Delirium“ which peaked at #3 in the UK and the USA.
