Urania Culture Palace & FESCH.TV:

The multimedia stage installation and performance ‚URANIA CULTURE PALACE‘ by Eliza Goldox deconstructs the science fiction story ‚Selbstversuch‘ by Christa Wolf (1972) from an intersectional perspective. The story features a laboratory assistant who tests a drug to transition into a man, driven by a sense of powerlessness as a woman in the socialist patriarchal system of the GDR. However, after living as a man, the protagonist decides to revert back into a woman due to an inability to feel emotions like love. In the story, the laboratory assistant meets her lover in front of the URANIA CULTURE PALACE. This palace is set up as the location for the performance and a walkable new media stage.

In the performance the 4 performers reflect on their individual history in relation to gender norms, sexuality, roles, as well as experiences of marginalization in various systems and structures. The piece reveals identity-political processes as well as bodily and political transitions through singing, movements, fashion, sound, sign language, digital media, and film. The story from the GDR context is projected into current realities by the international group.
