TOP TEN: Lacuna Coil

This band was originally formed as „Sleep of Right“ in 1994, before they changed their name to „Ethereal“ in 1995 and then „Lacuna Coil“ (Italian for „Empty Spiral“) in 1997. Members of the original group that are still in the groups are vocalist Andreo Ferro and Marco Coti Zelati (bass). They added Cristina Scabbia as female vocalist in 1996. After they had several guitarists during their band history (Cristiano Migliore and Marco Biazzi with the longest stay) they added Diego Cavalotti in 2016 and Richard Meiz as their drummer in 2019 (Cristiano Mozzati had the longest stay here).

The band signed a record deal in 1997 and released their self-titled debut EP in 1998. In 1999 their first studio album ‚In Reverie‘ was released. In 2001 the next album was „Unleashed Memories“ which reached the German album charts and peaked there at #72. With „Comalies“ their 3rd studio album they then reached the Top 50 in Germany and the Top 200 in the USA.

In 2006 the band released their 4th studio album ‚Karmacode‘ which helped them to major breakthrough across the world. In the USA the album peaked at #28, while in the UK and Germany it reached the Top 50. It also was their first studio album to chart in their homecountry of Italy where it peaked at #17. The single „Our Truth“ then topped the UK Rock Charts that year as well.

Their next album „Shallow Life“ was released in 2009. It peaked at #16 in the US album charts, while it reached #25 in Italy and Top 50 in France and the UK. The band then released „Dark Adrenaline“ as their 6th studio album, which peaked at #15 in the USA and #18 in Italy and also reached the Top 40 in Germany and the Top 50 in the UK.

With their 7th studio album „Broken Crown Halo“ they continued their success with a peak of #13 in Italy, #27 in the USA and Top 40 in Germany, Top 50 in the UK. 2 more studio albums followed: First „Delirium“ in 2016 with their best result in Italy as it peaked at #11 and #33 in Germany. And then in 2019 „Black Anima“ with a new peak for Germany at #15. Their next studio album „Comalies XX“ will be released this Friday and it will have „deconstructed and transported“ versions of their 2002 album.
