FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:

Tignon is experimental interpretation of Louisiana’s 18th century Tignon law, a sumptuary law that required free black women to cover their hair to appear „less attractive.“ The film is a visual ode to the creativity and resilience of the Black women of that era that, instead of wrapping their hair in drab fabrics, used bright materials and adorned their tignons with jewels, feathers and flowers. The Tignon ultimately became one of the most popular fashion statements of the time and also served as a symbol of resistance. Tignon is commentary on how Black women consistently set the trends and impact culture within the societies that oppress them.
