Q: Under what chance did you make this short film?
A: When I was a sophomore, I led my team to Guangxi as a team leader for summer social practice. The practice results were divided into paper form and video form. The reason for choosing video form is that I think the intangible cultural heritage is in urgent need of salvage protection, and the record of handicrafts should not only stay in the description of words, but also need a documentary combining vision and hearing, description and thinking.

Q: Since it is a team practice, how much work have you done in short film production?
A: I did the editing alone; The short film was shot by me and another team member. We alternate tripod and stabilizer, because stabilizer + 5DIII is too heavy. Other team members are responsible for interview, field affairs, accommodation, etc. They provide important guarantee for shooting.

Q: Why did you choose to shoot Zhuang brocade in Guangxi?
A: First of all, because of the characteristics of my undergraduate school, we usually choose topics related to minority ethnic culture when we do projects;
At a deeper level, Zhuang brocade is one of the four famous brocades in China. It has high cultural and artistic value. After a period of decline, it has gradually transformed into a public vision in recent years and is active on the stage of cultural innovation and international fashion. We want to record its process of cultural change.
Of course, there is another direct reason. Three of the seven members of our team are from Guangxi. If we practice in Guangxi, the burden of expenses will be reduced. As a team leader, I must consider the fund.

Q: What is your reflection after completing the short film?
A: The first is communication. How to effectively communicate with the interviewees and gain their trust is the guarantee for their natural expression in front of the camera; The second is the preparatory work. We didn’t bring a tripod when we interviewed Liang Hengyuan on the first day, so the whole interview was recorded by hand, resulting in very shaking of the lens.

Q: What is the purpose of this short film / practice?
A: From the perspective of inheritance and protection of intangible cultural heritage, I am the most loyal recorder.
From the perspective of cultural communication, I hope more people can understand this ancient and beautiful national art.
I hope to record and present the development status of Zhuang brocade through video, and interview inheritors and entrepreneurs to understand how they combine tradition with modernity, find the accurate market positioning of traditional manual Zhuang brocade under the impact of modern mechanized production, protect and carry forward Zhuang brocade culture and radiate its new vitality.
