Subway. Lighting Study made with Unreal Engine

FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:

The idea was to create a mood inspired by the iconic movie Bonnie and Clyde, by the cinematographer Burnet Guffey which I’ve recently watched and was amazed by the looks and the overall mood.
Influenced by the idea of travel, I wanted to make this subway less urban and more like a train. So I decided to make an exterior scene based on Rio de Janeiro and it’s famous sunset.
So, for the mood of the scene I tried to get best of both main references.
Also, concerned with both performance and realistic look, I’ve chosen to have a static lighting setup with a fake dynamic exterior. This way I could have more bouncing light inside the subway wagon and play with materials to set the static background.
I decided to make a stack of sheets with a panning material to give the impression of movement and to give depth to the scene since I’m using an HDR backdrop for the background.
