Stripes Too (from Chamber Ensemble, a sound installation by Judy Dunaway)

FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:

Stripes Too (silent 3D sculpture) is one of three sculptures in my immersive sound installation “Chamber Ensemble (for Balloons).” Stripes Too consists of real-time video animations projected into large translucent latex balloons. The real-time animations consist of lines traveling in various paths which, when projected onto and through the balloons, take on a curved 3-D appearance that simulates how sound waves travel across the earth. The video animations are controlled pixel-by-pixel via data gathered in real-time, including the amplitude, frequencies and envelopes of sounds that occur in the room. This means that balloon sounds made by visitors participating with the ReBa sculpture will also affect the speed, size and design of the animations of Stripes Too. Stripes Too briefly fades to black during Balloon Release’s pop and slowed pop playback. When Balloon Release is giving its one to two minute performance, Stripes Too receives data from the system that matches the snippets selected for the real-time mix in order to coordinate the video with the performance. When no sound is occurring in the room, Stripes Too performs based on random and weighted-random parameters.

This 3-D sculpture gives a different visual experience based on angle of viewing. This video shows the side view only. For front angle view of sculpture go to this video and cue to 2:37:

Chamber Ensemble (for Balloons) was shown at Harvestworks, New York City, November 2017. Materials: large latex balloon, real-time generated video projections.
