From my evening walk today in one of the busy „galis“ (alleys) of magical and intense downtown Varanasi – this chaotic city is not for the faint-hearted. Known in history as Kashi (City of Life) and Benares, this is one of the world’s oldest continually inhabited cities and is one of Hinduism’s seven holy cities. Hindu pilgrims travel to the ghats along the Ganges to wash away a lifetime of sins in the sacred waters or perhaps to cremate their loved ones. Uttar Pradesh, India. September 2022.
