Sleeping Around Safely: Cruising to Alaska

Can you guess where I’m Sleeping Around Safely now? Excited to share our first Oh The People You Meet mini-sode of our epic journey from @visitseattle to @travelalaska on-board @norwegiancruiseline first domestic sailing in over 500 days!

The energy from the local folks in the ports we visited, the passengers, the crew, the @choirofman cast to Norwegian Encore’s ship captain and even NCL’s CEO was palpable! It feels so good to be back out in the world again!

The only negatives were our pre-boarding test results, because the ship and everyone we visited were over flowing with hope + positivity. It was emotional people! Why you ask?

While to many this seems like a fun vacation (and to 2,600 vaccinated passengers it was – 60% of NCL Encore’s capacity), it’s important to remember that 1 in 11 jobs across the globe are in the travel industry – which is the 10th largest GDP. In a place like Icy Strait Point (just one of our ports of call), 90% of the adult population in the town of Hoonah (approximately 800 people, largely Tlingit community) hold a job in tourism. Believe it or not, you going safely + sustainably on vacation could do a lot of small local communities a world of good right now.

This video is our first „Sleeping Around Safely“ mini-sode featuring the great return to cruising to last frontier and most epic nature escape

Me + the OTPYM traveling team couldn’t be more proud to have been part of such a momentous occassion. We still have a whole lot of editing to do so we can introduce you to so many inspiring people we interviewed for our “Sleeping Around Safely” + “Michaela’s Map” series. Stay tuned + ready, set, sail!

Pack a bag + journey on,
Michaela Guzy + the OTPYM traveling team.
