FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:

1:20. April 4, 2019 at University of Southern California, Alumni Park, Doheny Library.

In celebration of the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley’s immortal horror novel, Frankenstein, USC’s Doheny Memorial Library and Alumni Park came alive with spine-tingling sights, sounds, and smells on April 4, 2019.

Under the direction of digital artists Akiko Yamashita, Yo-Yo Lin, 20 USC faculty and 6 Library staff, 170 USC students and alumni from all six of USC prestigious art schools (cinematic arts, music, theatre, dance, art and design, and architecture) re-animated Mary Shelley’s enduring classic in stunning fashion. The event explored traditional notions of life, death, artificial intelligence, and monsters.

Digital projection mapping transformed the Library’s exterior into a vibrant, electronic palette for re-telling the original story. Dancers and actors performed live against a backdrop of animation set to a chilling musical score. The Frankenflatable sculptures, the Dr. Frankenhead interactive game, the Faces of Frankenstein custom Snapchat filters, and the Smell-o-vision custom scents, added immersive and interactive elements.

Presented by USC Visions and Voices: The Arts and Humanities Initiative. Organized by Lisa Mann (Cinematic Arts), Amy Murphy (Architecture) and Tyson Gaskill, Patty Johnson, Anne-Marie Maxwell, Marje Schuetze-Coburn and Tim Stanton (USC Libraries). Edited by Ana Carolina Estarita.
