Shakara which translates to “showing off/flair” in yoruba is a visual project which celebrates the role of the 21st century black Nigerian women in Britain and their influence in beauty/fashion. The project aims to commemorate the thriving 21st century black women and her influence in fashion creating a table for herself from setting trends to business ownership in the fashion and beauty world.
At its core Shakara aims to universally empower young black women in their effort and resilience in taking their power back and redefining themselves as they please, separate from the male gaze. Shakara is an ode to black Nigerian women in some of their varied and distinct facets, this project visually aims to commemorate the vibrant and creative spirit of young nigerian girls today.
