REZ DOGS behind the scenes

FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:

This film was shot in the middle of the Navajo Reservation with an all Native American cast and crew. I wrote this story from my experiences of the awkward stages of life, the times after high school before your 25. Where you don’t feel like an adult but you don’t feel like a kid either. On the reservation there where times where I identified as any one of the characters in the film. The rapper trying to make it or the college kid trying to find a place back home, but can’t because everything is so different. Or the kid that „fell“ in love. Rez Dogs is a phrase given to the dogs wondering around the gas stations, hotels or any place on the „Rez“ . People don’t know where they came from or where they are going. They are just there and existing. Sometimes they get beaten up or you see them dead on the side of the road or you see them wagging their mangey tales while eating some leftovers they found. I sometimes felt like a rez dog just existing with no sense of direction just happy with what leftovers destiny gave to me. Growing up in a small town you can relate to all the characters you find, but with the reservation I feel its a bunch of people trying to find their place in the chaos which makes them a different kind of character. I hope you can see the beauty of living on the rez, but also some of the hardships. Its not all doom and gloom, but there are some good times. To conclude, sit back and enjoy this epic first film created by the people for the people and this is our story. Ahe’he (Thank You)

Synopsis: Two cousins Jacob and Rakeem try to find ways to leave the reservation after their grandmother dies. Jacob finds what it means to love and live as they travel through the complexities of reservation life.
