FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:

PODYH is a womenswear brand created at the intersection of architecture and fashion.

In Kyiv as well as throughout Ukraine there is the problem of losing the architectural monuments of Soviet modernism. Most of the objects are in critical condition, others are ruthlessly destroyed. Society, the most of its part, considers this architecture horrible, unnecessary, only as a legacy of the Soviet era, which must be finally destroyed. However, some people are ready to oppose them and defend their hometowns. PODYH considers its goal make everyone to be able to see the beauty and value of this architecture impartially, without reference to the era.

Therefore, we decided to create a collection – FW21 Kyiv modernism, which reconsiders the famous buildings of Soviet modernism in Kyiv: the Vernadsky library, „Salyut“ Hotel, “Mir” Hotel, „Memorial Park“, the building of the Faculty of Physics of KNU, the „Flying saucer“ on Lybidska Square.

Also, having a strong will to influence the situation in their hometown, the PODYH team decided to help the ARVM Foundation (Cultural Heritage Preservation Fund of Ada Rybachuk and Volodymyr Melnychenko) in restoring the „Memorial Wall“. – a memorial in the „Memorial Park“, 213 meters long, covered with bas-reliefs.

The construction of the „Memorial Wall“ took more than 10 years, but in early 1982, when its reliefs were completed and it remained to cover them with glaze, the Communist Party leaders ordered to eliminate this work due to „non-compliance with the principles of socialist realism.“ All bas-reliefs were concreted.
