Located on the banks of a river which connected it to the sea, 17 kilometers away, Perge was the capital of Pamphylia, a country born of Greek colonization 3000 years ago. The silting up of the river and the Arab attacks of the 7th century led the inhabitants to leave the city and abandon it. We still have splendid remains that take us back to an ancient history.
