Otiizing Quality Control Testing with a Kinexus Rheoeter – FESCH.TV

FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:

This presentation will describe a simplified method to automatically perform several typical QA/QC testing methods, in an automated fashion with greater reproducibility, using a Dynamic Shear Rheometer (DSR). The DSR testing will be used to perform surrogate tests relating to common penetration, softening point and simple viscosity. These methods will provide both operator independent results that are automatically collected on a single sample and data that provides a greater understanding of the materials tested relating to processing properties. This discussion will cover both dynamic (oscillation within the linear visco-elastic region) and static (stress creep) loading to provide results that directly correlate to with the required test methods.

Samples used for this discussion will be a broad range of roofing asphalt binders (bitumen) normally tested to the following ASTM standards:
• ASTM D-312 Standard Specification for Asphalt Used in Roofing
• ASTM D36 Standard Test Method for Softening Point of Bitumen
• ASTM D-5 Standard Test Method for Penetration of Bituminous Materials
• ASTM D4402/D4402M Standard Test Method for Viscosity Determination of Asphalt at Elevated Temperatures Using a Rotational Viscometer

The results gathered collected will be shown to provide useful and immediate process control information, as well as, easier to perform quality control reporting with operator feedback.
