The School of Nursing has played quite a role in the legacy of the Duquesne in Rome program.

For 10 years, Doctor in Nursing Practice graduate students come to Rome as a part of the Transcultural and Global Health Perspectives course. Each summer since then, students not only tour and hear lectures on important sites from our Rome-based faculty, they also visit private and public hospitals, meet with scholars and researchers of the Center for Nursing Excellence and other prestigious universities of Italy, as well as visit different parts of the country, with destinations that include Rome, Vatican City, Florence, Naples, Palermo and more. It is also a special time for this online cohort to come together and spend time with each other and their professors in physical community! And what an experience to do so abroad!

Since 2016, we have hosted the 6-credit, 4-week undergraduate summer program, Maymester Nursing Rome! This summer option in Italy gives nursing students are the ability to study abroad while staying on track with their curriculum and rotations. Students take an on-site art history class as well as the Cultural Applications in Clinical Practice course needed to fulfill their degree requirements. Undergraduate students visit Italian hospitals, take part in a Nursing conference, as well as travel throughout Italy on organized excursions.

During this 20th Anniversary year, we are raising money to continue to provide financial assistance and scholarship funds to Duquesne in Rome students who wish to have a life-changing experience at our flagship program in Italy. In 2021, we have a year-long goal to raise $120,000. We thank alumni, students and faculty from the School of Nursing who have already helped us raise almost $67,000.
