Director statement:
The vision we had for the film was a varied analogy of human emotion. To situate ourselves in crowded places is to activate our primal thoughts and feelings, so we wanted to do this project to show our core selves, or core instincts that have been embedded in us since birth. The idea came from the team getting to know each other. When we asked each other ‘what energy do you think you exude?’, we quickly realised that we wanted to create a narrative that fit around that answer. We want the audience to travel through these different scenes, quite kinetically, to fit that theme of energy. What’s important to us is that this film doesn’t send any message of bias, or says that any of the thoughts and feelings are wrong to have, but to show how everyone is different, right down to the processes of our brains.
Artist Statement:
We wanted the technique, styles and colours to be up to choice; this would really show the range of diversity within the characters. We ended up with a range of styles and techniques, including hand drawn animation and live action footage. This in turn gives off a teaser effect, as if the project is a trailer for a long-form analogy of different animations. And we believe that way it can resonate more with its audience, having different scenes in different styles increases the amount of people who will relate and form a connection with a segment, rather than having one uniform style that only a certain demographic of people will attach themselves to.
