Tell us a bit about you!
So, my name is Chris Vaines, I am the director and national learning and development consultant at KMF Training & Consultancy Ltd. What we do is what it says on the tin: we’re a training and consultancy company. In terms of online courses, it’s varied: we offer CPD
and we offer qualifications as well, because KMF Training is an accredited centre to deliver
and offer qualifications.

What problem did you need to solve?
Coming from a training, assessor and internal quality assurer background, I had this idea about how there wasn’t much in terms of CPD. You had to attend either half day or full day workshops. Sometimes you want to get this much information but you end you end up having to sit in something which gives you that much information and obviously there’s a time implication there, the travel implication, the cost implication.

What project did you undertake using Nimble?
So, I just came up with this idea: I was thinking, right, well, if I was a trainer who wanted to be refreshed on how to create a lesson plan, how would I do it? So, revisited the qualifications, for those sectors – for trainers and assessors and we reached out to a very well-known author and subject matter expert in the field of education and training, and we worked collaboratively with her to create these CPD modules.
They are all mapped to the qualifications, but they’re focused – so you can pick one or two,
what you really want to do and you can access it online whenever you want, put it down and pick it back up whenever you want.

What impact did the project have?
It’s more of a mindset shift. It’s like, there is a market for this type of training. Theoretically you could get these qualifications-based courses and break them down and people obviously have warmed to that idea.
It wasn’t the intention and first, but then very quickly we realised that people could use our courses to train their own staff. If they were to try and go down the traditional route, with a training centre, it would’ve cost them more money, so it was actually a cost saving for them.

What’s next?
Rather than delving into subject matter expertise, we thought, well no, training, assessing, IQA, etc. those are the things which are fairly generic amongst most people.
Our next step will be looking at things which are more subject matter specific.
