Nicholas Lepinski – Tips for Preventing and Thawing Frozen Pipes.mp4

FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:

younger brother, Joey, had just finished college at Harvard, when an opportunity presented itself for us to travel to Puerto Rico to assist with the recovery effort following Hurricanes Irma and Maria in 2017. We packed lightly — one small duffel bag and a book each — for what we thought would be a couple of days to a few weeks, tops, on the island. We exited the New Jersey winter on a plane headed towards the tropical oasis that had been maimed and scarred by two category five hurricanes that passed through the island within two weeks of each other. When we got there we stepped off of our plane and the challenges immediate began to arise. Communication was very difficult as power lines and cell towers has been disrupted by the storm. We rented a car and began to travel around the island and immediately began to notice the amount of homes without roofs. Even in the big city of San Juan, large commercial buildings bared strong evidence of damage caused by the storms’ wrath. We initially stayed in various Airbnbs while trying to locate the contacts we had established prior to arriving. After a couple of delightful Airbnb stays, brushing up on our Spanish, and meeting a few new friends, it became clear to us that the home base of the Red Cross effort on this part of the island was at a small hostel just outside of downtown San Juan. We arrived to the hostel a little bit tired, a little bit surprised by the damage we had seen on the island, a little bit sunburnt, and a little bit smothered in aloe. The people at the hostel welcomed us warmly and helped us get settled in. At this point in the trip, we had phoned Samson, Joey’s friend from school, and were now a three-man Wolfpack comprised of two students of illustrious northeastern colleges and a disgruntled (but eager to help) Marine Corps veteran. The vans would leave every morning at the crack of dawn headed straight into the mountains to little towns like Orocovis and Guaynabo and Bayamon. Our focus was to bring means to create electricity and clean water and communications to people with urgent medical needs.
