Moving Iage Project – FESCH.TV

FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:

For this project my core idea was to create a piece that reflects on the pressure and anxieties women have driven by the unrealistic beauty standards coming from the fashion and beauty industries. I channeled my own question and issues with self doubt into this assignment to make it more vulnerable and personal.

The format I chose to deliver this message was that of a skin care and make up tutorial that we’ve all seen across different media platforms. I specifically chose to very closely emulate the Vogue “Beauty Secrets” video series (title sequence, typography, music, scene-cutting, voiceover, sped up frames, etc.) in which the publication invites gorgeous female celebrities to walk the audience through their beauty and makeup routines. Vast majority of these videos speak to the superficiality of the beauty industry and also demonstrate how unattainable it is for most average people to look like these women. The videos also never touch on the treatments, surgeries and cosmetic procedures these celebrities have undergone and make it sound like having expensive skin care and drinking water is the golden formula, which we all know is not the case. Another reference I took was from a TikTok video trend that blew up over the past/spring summer where people would be doing their makeup, painting or cooking and talking about a way more serious topic, sometimes unrelated to the task at hand. Creators would do this to not have their videos censored easily as well as to indirectly draw attention to the topic they were speaking about.
