FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:

About Melissa,

On completing her gap year in 2015, Old Blue Melissa Sorby, from the Class of 2014, relocated south to study Fashion Management at The London College of Fashion, University of the Arts London.

Melissa’s four-year degree examined topics including fashion finance, buying and how to build a business, with her Year in Industry providing first-hand experience of the sector.

For six months Melissa worked as a Public Relations intern at world-renowned fashion brand Dior, which she describes as an incredible learning opportunity. For her second industry experience, Melissa worked as a Marketing Intern for Wolf and Badger, a global online marketplace for independent brands. Her role involved writing press releases and blog posts and networking with clients.

Reflecting on her university experience Melissa highlights the pros and cons of studying in the capital, from the benefits of attending lectures on London’s flagship Oxford Street to the absence of a close-knit university campus feel, due to the size and scale of London. But Melissa is keen to stress that studying in London is a unique experience, one she thoroughly enjoyed.

Currently at Michael Kors as a Brand Marketing Assistant, this role has taken her to France and Iceland.

Top tips from Melissa include never underestimating the importance of networking, keeping in touch with contacts and building your professional network in person and through platforms such as LinkedIn.
