Meet Your DE: Claudia Cavero

A “homegrown” travel expert with worldly experience, Claudia calls Peru’s bustling capital city of Lima home. Originally hailing from the Ancash region a few hours north of the Peruvian capital, she’s lived most of her life in Lima while spending numerous summers exploring and working abroad.

Having studied English since she was just six years old, Claudia’s first taste of international travel came from summer trips to Florida, California, and New York to visit far-reaching family. Her love of English combined with a young obsession with American true-crime television formed the basis of a childhood dream of working for the FBI.

After learning the FBI doesn’t hire anyone born outside the USA, Claudia’s career ambitions soon pivoted from intelligence and security to hospitality, a specialty she reached via the process of elimination: Which career would allow her to travel the most? Which career would allow her to mostly avoid her least-favorite subjects of calculus and complex numbers? Which career most fully embraces her personal mantra, the golden rule of treating others as you wish to be treated?

Two of her most formative university years were spent working at Disneyworld in Orlando and studying abroad in metropolitan Houston. Her stint at Disney was eye-opening and admittedly delightful, as it introduced her to a broad swath of world cultures, though as Claudia puts it, “you do eventually get tired of smiling and pointing with two fingers and using your Disney voice.” Her final year of university was spent surrounded by hundreds of other international students in Houston, which solidified her interest in different cultures and ultimately paved the way for her journey to SA Expeditions.

Back in vibrant Lima, with upcoming plans to travel extensively to Cusco, Argentina, and Patagonia, Claudia now brings her personal embodiment of the golden rule to every immaculate trip she artfully designs with SA.
