Meet Kathy Husser

Kathy Husser is an exceptional professional with over 20 years of experience in libraries. More specifically, she is experienced in public service, administration and information resource trends. Most recently, she held the position of the community services deputy director at the Tempe Public Library. Here, she was responsible for a $3.5 million wage and operating budget, which she successfully managed for four years. Kathy also produced many strategic plans, rebranded the website and implemented an annual Staff Training Day. As a result of her hard work in this role, Tempe Public Library became one of three Arizona library systems to be nominated for the 2019 IMLS National Medal in the past 25 years. This is an accomplishment Kathy holds near and dear to her heart.

Another of Kathy Husser’s notable accomplishments was her time of service as the Legislative Chair for the Arizona Library Association. Through her time serving in this role, she was able to travel to Washington D.C. to advocate for library issues on the federal level. Additionally, she has presented at a number of library conferences, using her public speaking skills to again show support for her industry.

Throughout Kathy’s career, she has also become skilled in federal and state grants, some of those being up to $40,000. Kathy is also involved in many professional organizations regarding her industry. She has been a member of the American Library Association since 2006, as well as many others.

Kathy Husser enjoys watching the trends and new developments in her industry. She believes that libraries are an equalizer in society, given the bountiful access to resources they offer to the community. She finds it interesting how different countries handle this access to information in the 21st century.

Aside from her business work in the library industry, Kathy is also an avid traveler. This passion of hers has allowed her to immerse herself in a variety of cultures, as she enjoys examining how other cultures live, work and play. She also enjoys learning about history, which traveling has allowed her to do in an immersive way.
