ME TWO_Trailer | dance performance for a young audience – LOW AIR Vilnius city dance theatre | 2021

FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:

A dance performance ME TWO

For Young audiences and anyone in relation to them.

*The performance is designed to be transferable and to be performed in BLACK BOX theatre format, non-conventional space as gallery and on traditional theatre STAGE format with the audience securely sitting. Links to the recordings are down below.

A collective space for emotional commitment and performance, individual doubts of youth that’s confronted with the gaze and memories of adults.

One of the most prominent Lithuanian female choreographers Airida Gudaite guides a bonded group of young dancers to document and dig into archives of their thoughts on common issues on, power relations, LGBTQ+, sexualized behavior towards teens and accumulate movement vocabulary. In search for the right movement in given time and space dancers dive into the archives of their body memory whilst getting acquainted with a new chapter of their lives with all intimate and often “awkward” boundless young experiences as if asking where the boundaries between the two are, why sensitive stories often remain silent or unheard.

The individual stories and attitudes towards problems mentioned above in the performance are intertwined with the collective experience, at least to some extent publicly beneficial to the worldview of young people. Participating in performance is tantamount to entering their personal space, where different confessions eventually thicken so that they intertwine like a dream in which they can stand firmly or seek a way only by being together and together meaning is being free of prejudice, unjust and discrimination.

The clique is a safe creative space at the right time to remember, to share, to forget, to grow.
The performance highlights the different power positions of two generations – the transcendence of boundaries or the unquestionable status quo. Thus, the audience is invited to revisit vibrant teen-hood, through the lens of an adult, a parent, a teacher, a power holder, a decision-maker, and to reflect on the connection between boundaries and power in interpersonal and intergenerational relationships.
The dancers say: We clique and move on.
Will you?

In order to have an open and direct dialogue with the viewer, the creators place the performance in a non-conventional space – a gallery – a conditional space that highlights individuality and gives the viewer the freedom to choose the path to physically travel through different rooms of teenage „states“. The fragmentation of the performance creates a space to recognize, experience, and together create an authentic shared experience filled with nowadays social media created phenomenon ‚a fare missing out‘.
