Me-Lee Hay resonates with tones that evokes beauty with danger composing for film, TV, dance and theatre. A Malaysian born Chinese-Australian, Hay has had works shown across many platforms including TV channels such as SBSOne & Channel TEN, to mainstream cinemas across Australia to 360 degree dome planetariums internationally. Off screen Hay has been commissioned by leading arts companies of Australia such as Sydney Dance Company’s PPY & Sydney Theatre Company.

Me-Lee Hay is a graduate of the Australian Film Television & Radio School (AFTRS), is an Associate Composer Representative of the Australian Music Centre and the Vice President of the Australian Guild of Screen Composers. She is published by Gaga music.

Her score for the fantasy driven 30 minute short film Last Tree Standing won Best Music for a Short Film at Australia’s prestigious APRA Screen Music Awards.

Other works include original composition for Museum Victoria’s Scienceworks planetary dome astronomy documentaries Starlight and Capturing the Cosmos (narrated by Sigrid Thornton and Geoffrey Rush respectively), SBS One series travel/cooking show Luke Nguyen (Greater Mekong 2, France, UK) and Network Ten’s Ben’s Menu.

​She worked on the feature film A Second Chance: Rivals! distributed by Pinnacle Films and was seen across cinemas in Australia & New Zealand in 2019. Me-Lee has worked as an additional composer on the feature film „Penelepa“, which won Best Fantasy Film at Amsterdam’s Van Goph’s Film festival and assistant composer to major Australian sci-fi features such as The Osiris Child: Science Fiction Volume 1 which have global distribution.

Off the screen Me-Lee has been commissioned twice for Sydney Dance Company’s PPY and has worked on the Sydney Theatre Company and National Theatre of Parramatta co-production White Pearl.

Her current passion project is composing for a children’s ballet Gold with Artistic Director and choreographer Simonne Smiles.

With a training in classical piano (A.Mus.A), cello and theory, combined with electronica/pop explorations in the touring live band scene, Me-Lee is attracted to sounds of classical textures merging seamlessly with sounds and ambience of the modern world to facilitate a story, emotion and creation of worlds.
