OVERCOMING WORRY AND ANXIETY With today’s headlines and news stories, the pandemic, vaccines, the economy and uncertainty, worry and anxiety are off the charts. But does that mean this is acceptable in God’s sight? Here are 10 things (5 this week and 5 next week) that you can do to change your thinking and overcome anxiety and worry:
1) Face the music – admit it, confess it. The first thing in overcoming any issue or problem is to admit that you have one. Worrying is no different!
2) List them – as you confess and admit them, write down the things your mind is dwelling on that cause you to be anxious.
3) Pinpoint the source(s) – Prayerfully ask The Lord and search your heart and mind for the reasons. So often we justify our actions and never think to determine the source and why we are struggling. This is a big step.
4) Determine your focus – keep track of how much time you spend worrying to give yourself an accurate assessment and what you can and can’t control.
5) Consider the effect – write down the outcomes…a) how often has your worrying solved the problem; b) how often has it increased the problem?
This is a great start and will help you if you are willing to act on it. Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:24-34 that we are not to worry as it consumes our times with things we have no control over. Mark Twain said it this way… “I’m an old man and known a great deal of trouble in my life…most of which never happened.” Next week we’ll look at 6-10 to help defeat worry!
Thanks for joining us and for your prayers! Thanks always to The Lord! Make it a great day and God bless in Christ!
