Let Me In – 2018 (Short Documentary)

Zeynab is a 22-year-old girl who born in Ahvaz, Iran. A staunch fan of football, she was among the first women who disguised themselves as men to enter football stadiums. It takes about 15 hours to travel from Ahvaz to Tehran by train for her to watch a match of Perspolis, her favorite football club. Since the Islamic Revolution of 1979, women have been banned from attending live football matches. Despite the ban, female football fans have never given up and have tried different methods to enter stadiums. Although they might get arrested, their passion for football as well as their diligence to recover their rights has kept them going. Pundits argue that arresting girls who have tried to enter stadiums by disguising themselves as men has been a turning point in Iran’s football history. When FIFA President Gianni Infantino found – during his trip to Tehran to watch the derby match between Perspolis and Esteghlal – that 35 women were arrested while trying to enter a stadium, he put more pressure on Iranian officials to undo the stadium ban. Although the pressure by FIFA has not led to complete freedom yet, it is undeniable that it has paved the way for women to reach their goal.
