Sometimes I ask myself if what is written is good enough. And many times we don’t have a choice but to play what’s written. And sometimes, I ask myself how to play material spoken by a character who is, say, a nincompoop.

There is a story where a famous actor will go on striking out lines of dialogues telling the director that he can just show it with his body and gestures. That is, much preferred.

Yet, what if the character is a motormouth and the actor is not? Or vice versa. Well, there’s the rub. Imagine an ebullient, vivacious person playing Hamlet. But then, why not? The actor’s craft is to allow differences to exist through oneself. And since we are all multitudes, we can all do it… with practice, of course.
