KID CUDI: MURAKAMI REALITY – A Short Film by Ryan Bonfiglio

FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:

Kid Cudi’s ability to merge genres with his experimental style, is what heavily inspired me to merge a 3d multi-planet world, with the real time footage of his set at rolling loud. I wanted these two worlds/genres to combine to create a short film that told the story of an astronaut on the same mission as cudi: A mission of deeply impacting and reaching others through his music and making no one feel alone. The short film tells the story of a stranded astronaut, hopeless and alone on a vacant planet. The astronaut uses kid cudi’s murakami chain, (representing cudi and his music) to send him into Cudi’s infamous “moon” planet, where he is reunited with others just like him, not alone. I feel like this is exactly what cudi’s music does, it can send you into another world, disconnecting you from reality and realizing you are not alone in whatever it is you are going through. The blank astronaut in the beginning is left up to interpretation as to who exactly it is, which I think is the most beautiful part, meaning that it doesn’t matter who you are, anyone who fully embodies kid cudi and his music can be sent to another world.

I wanted to use the 3d in a literal sense to show location and travel, but more importantly I wanted the 3d to show the symbolism of himself and his music to create a deeper story and portrayal . From the astronaut putting on the chain representing embodying cudi’s music, the space shuttle blasting you into another world, the echoed audio of the people he’s impacted, the choirs/soundtracks, to the retro intro and outro to show how non linear time is with space travel, I wanted every detail to have a symbolic deep meaning to greater connect you with the video and story. Finishing with the lyrics of the final song ending with the chain floating again, representing that the chain (A portrayal of Kid Cudi), is floating, awaiting someone new to grab the chain and experience Kid Cudi and the massive impact he can have.
