Jacqueline Ayer: A Pioneer in Fashion and Children’s Book Illustration & FESCH.TV:

Discover the vibrant life and artistic journey of Jacqueline Ayer, a pioneering fashion designer, writer, and illustrator. From her childhood in New York to her adventures in Thailand and the swinging London of the 60s, this mini-documentary explores Jacqueline Ayer’s creative spirit and her lasting influence on children’s literature.

Jacqueline Ayer, a New York-born artist, relocated to Thailand in the 1950s. Captivated by Thai culture, she began sketching everyday life, and these drawings eventually inspired her beautifully illustrated children’s books, including the beloved titles „Nu Dang and His Kite“ and „A Paper Flower Tree“. With the support of American entrepreneur Jim Thompson, Ayer founded Design Thai, a fashion company instrumental in revitalising the Thai silk industry. Ayer translated traditional patterns into modern creations that were sold throughout the world.

Shootlab produced this film for The Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration, the film features insights from Ayer’s daughter Bet, alongside stunning visuals of her original artwork and textiles. Experience the world through Ayer’s eyes and discover the inspiration behind her beloved books like „Nu Dang and His Kite“ and „The Paper Flower Tree“.
