The Sultanahmet Mosque is one of Istanbul’s most famous landmarks. Inspired by the plans of the Hagia Sophia, built 1000 years earlier and transformed into a mosque in the 15th century, the Blue Mosque (name given to Sultanhahmet because of the color of the mosaics adorning the dome) was built at the beginning of the 17th century by the Sultan Ahmet. It is a true architectural wonder.
