Originally a Christian basilica whose first construction began in the 4th century and which was considerably enlarged in the 6th century, the Hagia Sophia became a mosque in the 15th century, during the reign of Sultant Mehmet II. Mustapha Kemal Attaturk decided to offer this place of worship to humanity and desecrated Hagia Sophia to make it a museum in 1934. A decision of the Turkish authorities dated July 10, 2020 Hagia Sophia was reopened as a Muslim place of worship.
