IMPS I

FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:

Solo Classical Guitar – „IMPS I“ is the fifth (yes, I can count) solo classical piece in the „IMPS“ series, NOT to be confused with any of my other sinister series, that pay tribute to Fiends (not friends) and other horrible beasts of the night and to the marvelous influences, much to many’s dismay and chagrin, they have had on my person and my composing. We began with IMPS 3 and not IMPS 1 since, by their very nature, IMPS are rather wily and travel in packs. And IMPS is all in caps so they don’t feel so small. Just listen and you will see why…

This excerpt begins at m. 1 and concludes at m. 23. The fierce opening motif makes a vicious return later in the piece. But for now the piece settles into this bubbling IMPS figure made possible through imitative devices and some pseudo-phasing. M. 13 begins a canon at the octave in A minor, then modulates to D minor in mm. 20-21. IMPS I is perhaps the most fun of all the IMPS pieces to play!

The „IMPS“ pieces share little thematic material yet make the same sinister and haunting aura about them. I sincerely hope that you enjoy this piece as well as the other „IMPS“ pieces.
