HIALSA-SIAC 2021 Public Lecture

In this HIALSA-SIAC lecture “International Arbitration: Challenges & Evolution,” Chan Leng Sun, SC identifies key problem areas that practitioners, arbitrators and arbitral institutions have to address if arbitration is to remain relevant. He surveys recent developments, such as international commercial courts and international mediation, that offer alternatives to users. He recommends that our work processes evolve, in line with technological advances as well as environmental concerns. For those who have some miles yet to travel in their careers, Mr. Chan considers whether international arbitration is still a field fertile with opportunities.

Mr Chan’s lecture is followed by a moderated discussion with Ms. Adriana Uson, the Head of SIAC Americas, and Mr. Kevin Nash, Deputy Registrar and Centre Director of SIAC. This is a timely opportunity to hear about the recent opening of SIAC Americas, institutional perspectives from SIAC case management, and developing an arbitration career.
