The rock monastery of Gumusler was excavated in the early Christian era and houses some of the best preserved frescoes in Cappadocia. Even if Gumusler, near the town of Nigde, is not strictly speaking part of present-day Cappadocia. But the borders of this region of eastern Anatolia have fluctuated a lot over the centuries, and this troglodyte architecture is typical of Cappadocia.
