Gary Wright – Drea Weaver (1976) *NEW VIDEO – FESCH.TV

FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:

Here’s a great #1 hit! Just finding out that American singer Gary Wright was one of the major members of the British rock band Spooky Tooth in the late 60’s and early 70’s. That was a band that got a lot of play on FM radio stations in both Buffalo, NY and Toronto, Canada. He’ll forever be remembered for his hit song, „Dream Weaver,“ in early 1976. One of my big favorites and one that contributed to a new, progressive sound in rock music during the second half of the 1970’s into the 1980’s. The album, The Dream Weaver, was released in July 1975, but the single that is the subject of this video was not released until December 1975. I began listening to a lot of Top 40/100 FM radio in spring 1975, but do not recall hearing this song until at least late January 1976. It of course won me over with its altered states sounds and astral plane lyrics, so very surreal. I always felt there was a deeper message than what you actually hear in the lyrics, and it involves metamorphosis, transforming oneself, knowing oneself (I think), knowing all the people inside of us that make us so very unique. That can be both enlightening and disturbing.

„Dream Weaver“ peaked at #1 in Canada and on the US chart Cash Box on March 27, 1976, and was also at #2 on Billboard.
