Fragents of textile – FESCH.TV

FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:

We associate terms such as needlework and textile craftmanship techniques with our grandmothers and a time way in the past. The motto regarding textiles nowadays is not so much do-it-yourself, but buy-it-yourself. Having textiles repaired or even repairing them ourselves is also from an economic point of view hardly an option.

The Patchworkquilt installation Fragments of textile, which ist placed on the crossraod between art and design, approaches the topic of textile consumption and its social loss of value from a diffrent angle.

Using abstract, data visualizations, I question the phenomenon of „fast fashion“ today. Center point of the work is the medium „Patchworkquilt“, the craftmanship associated with it and its history itself. Through a website created especially for the installation, it is possible for visitors to discover the data behind the quilts directly on site while experincing the Quilts.

The focus is not to reinvent things, but rather to create something new with materials that already exist. The goal of my work is to encourage the viewer to critically question their own consumer behavior regarding textiles and to encourage „do-it-yourself“ projects.
