Flying with Your Field Kit

Going on a trip? Planning to do some work in your sketchbook, travel journal, or nature journal?

Before flying, check your kit and leave behind any extra „stuff“ that you wouldn’t be using on your trip!

Be sure to remove anything that may cause delay or confiscation at the airport!

Here’s what’s usually in my field kit:

Water
Sunscreen
Hat

Something to sit on – a small stool or a piece of „bubble wrap“ auto windshield sun protector

Field Bag: Darsey Beck Field Easel Art Bag

Sketchbook: HandBook

Pencils: Twist-Erase 0.7 mechanical pencils

Pens: Pigma MICRON (waterproof), sizes 03 & 005 — and a Tombow dual point (fine and brush) pen (not waterproof) — and a white Gelly Roll #10

Colored pencils: process red, true blue, lemon yellow, black grape, sepia, greyed lavender, white, colorless blender, non photo col-erase blue.

Pencil sharpener

Water brush filled with OMS and labeled as such

Erasers: an assortment, eraser shield, and soft brush

Stylus for embossing

Small Winsor & Newton watercolor palette, water brush, paper towels

Magnifying glass

Pocket knife
