FLASHBACK: 1984-01-07 / January 7th, 1984

This week’s Flashback-Video brings us back 38 years when the German Charts were led by the same song on #1 and #2 in different languages. The German-Italian singer who scored his first and only #1 song later represented Germany in the Eurovision Song Contest. Meanwhile in the UK it was a British a cappella vocal group with their only charttopper in their homecountry. It was a cover from a song which originally was performed by a synthpop duo and reached the Top 3 in the UK. And in the USA the duet of two mega-stars reached the top spot: Both started as members of a group before they became solo-superstars as well. For the Englishman it was the 9th #1 song as a solo artist while he had 20 more as part of the fourman-group. And for the American it was his 6th #1 in his homecountry as a solo-singer while he had 4 more with his 4 brothers.
