FISHES Documentary Teaser Rev 2

FESCH.TV INFORMIERT:

While wildlife populations around the world are collapsing, the fish of Canada’s far north are flourishing. From the world-record sized Lake Trout of Great Bear Lake, to the bountiful Arctic Char of Nunavut, to the colourful Brook Trout of northern Quebec, FISHES dives into a world few know exists – one where Indigenous communities have the incredible opportunity to harvest more fish than they do now, and have it be completely sustainable. That’s great news for people suffering with staggeringly high food costs and nutritional insecurity. But there are worrying signs climate change may change everything for these amazing fish, and the people who depend on them. That’s why northern communities have partnered with university researchers on FISHES, the largest project to ever study northern freshwater and androgynous fish. Join scientists and Indigenous fishers as they travel to some of the most pristine aquatic environments left on earth on a quest to understand the mysteries of the remarkable fish of the north. Their work may not only reveal how to keep northern fish thriving, the secrets they unlock may be what’s needed to give southern fish a fighting chance at recovery.
