Session 1 June 14 – June 25
(9 am – 3 pm)
Session 2 June 28 – July 9
(9 am – 3 pm)

Designers have two sessions to explore their fashion-forward creativity.

Session One: Design & Construction I: Students will learn garment construction basics such as cutting a standard pattern, closure methods, and fabric manipulation techniques such as quilting, pleating, and trapunto along with textile vocabulary that will assist them in the making of an accessory and/or basic garment. Students will also try out experimental pattern-making techniques, be introduced to surface design and learn about using recycled materials in garment design. This class is suitable for a beginner but will also offer advanced techniques for the intermediate sewer.

Session Two: Design & Construction II: This session is a great starting point for new designers or an option for students from Session I who want to continue creating and building their designs while deepening their skillset or new students with previous sewing skills who are ready to dive into making a conceptual garment using advanced techniques and materials. As with Session I, a selection of the student work will be included in the installation/exhibition at SFArtsED’s Minnesota Street Project gallery in fall 2021.
