Ceramic is used for many things in the game, on of them is upgrading your X-01 Suite.

A good location to start things off is at the Wildwood Cemetery. You can find a lot of vases there that contain 2 ceramic each.

Other things that contain ceramic are ashtrays, coffee cups and broken toilets near settlements. If you know what to look for, you can get a lot of ceramic in no time.

You can also buy shipments of ceramic in Diamond City from Myrna.

If you are short on time and want a lot of ceramic quickly you can always use the duplication glitch.
